Since the events
introduction on the Web there has been considerable effort expended
in networking within the global aviation community in terms of seeking
out the experts, gathering critical operational information and raising
the visibility in the Ultralight communities to identify key geographic
resources and enthuse participant pilots.
While race rules, prize offerings,
definitive subsidizing of participant costs and timing are yet to be
finalized, there are 146 pilots signed up from 28 countries:
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil,
Colombia, Czech Republic, Ecuador, France, Germany, Ireland, India,
Italy, Korea, Luxembourg,
Malaysia,
Mexico, Netherlands, People's Republic
of China, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Swaziland,
Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, and Venezuela.
Several others have responded as well
and are awaiting rule finalization before committing. Given the early
stage of the event and the correspondence received to date, there is
no doubt that the race will meet it’s goal of 150 fliers. Participant
entrance will need to be closed three months in advance of the flight.
Participants will most likely be entered
in two classes of Ultralight crafts with overall winners in both categories.
Prizes will also be offered on a daily and weekly basis, similar to
the Tour de France event. Current plans are to offer participants either
highly subsidized or fully complementary race services in terms of hotel
accommodations, food and beverage and fuel along the route. Arrangements
will be made to address participant payment systems needs enroute as
well. Professional timing and communication services will be in place.
The event will be properly insured and secured by companies with international
reputations for high quality services. Ground and air crews will be
professionally outfitted including medical personnel.
