This download takes place without any user interaction. News Archival Older news is archived on daily basis. Archival limit is set as per user's preference. Slide Show A slide show displaying photo-gallery images available on www.hindustantimes.com. This slide show is personalized as per user's preference such that user is only shown images from a category he is interested in. Messenger A standard messenger featuring instant messaging, contact management, offline messaging and conference functionality. HT users can also initiate discussions on any news article through this messenger. Both these modes feature resuming an incomplete/partial download. Auto-upgrade not only downloads the latest files but it also installs all the downloaded components without user’s interaction. Files were downloaded using HTTP. ii) Matrix Support Component This is an ATL COM component. The Matrix support Component handles all Support Subsystem of HT@Desk project. It comprises of various services, Such as A) HttpService : For connection with server using Socket’s. B) XMLservice : Using MSXML for Dom processing. C) RegistryService : For writing & reading from windows Registry. D) NetDetection Service : Pinging Utility using Wininet socket Lib . which are an integral part of HT@Desk. iii) Matrix Download Component This is an ATL COM component. The Matrix Download component handles download Activity. A) It connects to server using sockets, then downloads stuff on client M/c. B) It then handles unzipping and XML parsing activity using DOM parser. iv) Multimedia Component This is an Active x control component. It hosts a tab control, on which a media player control to play audio/video clips. It also shows slide show of photo Gallery. 2) IT@Desk Project: - It is a desktop client being developed for Times of India primarily focusing on News alerts at particular intervals and a News Ticker. Some of its key features are as follows: News Alerts: It Displays a Messenger kind of alert at a particular interval from taskbar, which contains latest headlines from times of India. News Ticker: It’s a dockable window above the taskbar, which scrolls news headlines from left to right. News Container: It displays 20 latest headlines from times of India. By clicking on any of which we can see the full story in new browser window.
